What We Check
Leaks and rust
We look for leaks, rust and moisture around the tank, the fittings and the floor below it.
Relief valve
We check the safety valve that lets off pressure if the tank gets too hot or too full.
Sediment buildup
We listen for popping or rumbling, a sign that hard-water minerals have settled in the tank.
Anode rod
We check the rod that draws corrosion away from the tank, and whether a powered anode makes sense.
Burner, pilot or elements
On gas units we check the pilot and burner. On electric units we test the heating elements.
Venting and gas connection
We make sure exhaust vents out safely and the gas connection is sound.
Expansion tank
We check whether your home has a thermal expansion tank, which protects your pipes, and if it works.
Tankless scale and filters
On tankless units we look for hard-water scale and check the built-in water and air filters.
